C1. You are an independent contractor
This agreement does not create an employment relationship between you and Kazi. You are an independent contractor:
- You set your own hours (subject to safety caps below).
- You provide your own vehicle and equipment.
- You are responsible for your own tax (provisional tax registration with SARS).
- You are not entitled to UIF, leave, sick pay, or any other employee benefit.
- Kazi does not deduct PAYE, you receive gross payouts and declare them yourself.
C2. Eligibility
To drive on Kazi you must:
- Be 18+.
- Hold a valid SA ID or passport.
- Hold the appropriate driver's licence for your vehicle class (Code A for motorcycle, Code B for car).
- Pass our KYC review:
- Valid licence (front + back)
- Proof of address (< 3 months old)
- Vehicle photos (4 angles, plates clearly visible)
- Police clearance certificate (valid within last 6 months)
- Vehicle insurance (third party minimum)
- Maintain a satisfactory rating, as assessed by Kazi.
C3. Earnings and settlement
- Your share of each fee, and your tips, are shown in the Kazi app. The applicable rates are those set by Kazi from time to time and displayed in-app.
- Cash on completion. In the current version every ride and parcel is paid by the customer in cash, directly to you, at the drop-off. You keep the full amount at the point of collection; Kazi’s share of each completed job is recorded in your Earnings screen and settled with Kazi separately.
- On a ride, the deductions from the quoted fare are: 20% Kazi commission, 1% booking fee and 3% payment processing, leaving you 76%. On a delivery you keep 75%. Tips are yours in full. None of this is added to what the customer pays; it all comes off the fare they were quoted.
- Kazi does not hold your earnings, and no Kazi-controlled bank account sits between you and the customer.
- Card payment and automated bank settlement are not live yet. When they are, we will notify you and update this clause before the change takes effect.
C4. Safety caps (non-negotiable)
These are enforced by our backend:
- Max shift: 12 hours. After 12 consecutive hours online, your shift auto-ends, you can't accept new offers until you've had 6 hours' rest.
- Min rest: 6 hours between shifts. The app blocks you from going online until this is met.
These are for your safety. They're not negotiable.
C5. Acceptance and cancellation
- You can go online and offline at will. There is no minimum-hours requirement.
- Low acceptance rates or high cancellation rates may trigger an account review.
- Repeated reviews may result in suspension at Kazi's discretion.
C6. Conduct
You agree to:
- Treat customers and merchants with respect at all times.
- Wear a Kazi-issued bib or t-shirt (provided once you complete 50 trips) while on duty.
- Not consume alcohol or drugs while on duty.
- Verify the customer's age before handing over restricted goods (alcohol).
- Report any accident, injury, or aggressive incident to Kazi support immediately.
Breach may result in immediate suspension. Full rules: Acceptable Use Policy.
C7. Vehicle and insurance
- You are responsible for keeping your vehicle roadworthy, licensed and insured.
- Kazi does not provide vehicle insurance. Your own policy is responsible for any third-party liability arising from your use of the vehicle.
- You carry your own risk for personal injury and loss. Kazi gives no warranty or guarantee of cover.
C8. Termination
- Either side may end this agreement on reasonable written notice.
- Kazi may suspend or terminate access immediately for safety-cap breaches, KYC fraud, criminal conduct, or conduct that brings Kazi into disrepute.
- On termination, any fare you have already collected in cash is yours; you remain liable for commission on trips already completed, and no further trips are offered to you.
C9. Tax
You are responsible for your own tax. Kazi does not deduct any tax at source. Payout records are available in the Driver App, and Kazi may report aggregate payouts to SARS where lawfully required.
VAT registration may be required once your payouts cross the SARS threshold. Consult a tax practitioner.
